-At Eastern Fresh, we strive to provide a high quality product. Therefore, we implement strict food safety practices both at our post harvest facility and with our field operations.

-We are inspected by a third party auditors on a voluntary and unannouced basis.

-We are audited by the USDA, customer food safety personel, independent customer auditors, and for certain commodities by other third party auditors. Areas audited include: the actual farm , farming practices and harvesting activities under the Harmonized Field Operations Standard. Packing activities, cooling, facility cleanliness, handling, and traceback (as well as others) under the Post Harvest Harmonized Standard. The Global Addendum audit is also utilized for Field and Post Harvest Operations.

-Workers are trained in responsible conduct and safe and sanitary work habits.  This training covers a number of food safety policies including proper clothing, hand sanitation, use of disposable gloves, hairnets, and aprons, and etc.

-Our equipment and utensils are designed and maintained in a manner that prevents contamination of food.  This way, they can be cleaned and sanitized in order to guarantee a food safe product.

-Our refrigeration units are monitored and kept at the proper temperature.

-We implement a sanitation and pest control program to ensure the safety of our food products.

-We verify that all carriers are suitable for the transport of our product before any produce is placed on the truck.  In addition, carriers are loaded and arranged in a manner that prevents damage or contamination of the food and packaging materials.

-Access of personnel and visitors is controlled to prevent contamination.  All visitors must register at the office and wear the proper protective devices within our facilities.

-Regular irrigation water quality tests are preformed.

-For produce items like lettuce, we send samples to be tested for dangerous pathogens, as an added layer to guarantee safety.
